Inspiration for Project Pouch
In an effort to give back to my IBD community I delved into my creative side and I designed organic cotton pouches and pencil cases which were hand block printed using environmentally-friendly vegetable dyes. I sketched a whimsical interpretation of a colon which I then had translated to a block print.
I collaborated with a non-profit company, Dhonk Crafts (Dhonk), based in Ranthambore, Rajasthan, India. Together, we share a common goal: to make a positive impact on our immediately affected communities. By engaging with Dhonk, I ensured that every aspect of this endeavor was rooted in ethical practices, fair trade, and sustainable development. Dhonk skill trains and empowers women and their families of former tiger poachers belonging to the Mogya tribe.
Proceeds from the sale of these pouches and pencil cases will be donated to NYU Langone’s Pediatric Gastroenterology division to to support the educational component of NYU Langone’s new IBD Center. Funds will be used to continue to develop and distribute materials to patients and families as well as to establish support programs.
